G5 or G6? Picking your UniFi Protect cameras

UniFi's camera wall has two axes: the shape (where it can live) and the generation (what it sees). Get the shape right first — a great sensor pointed from the wrong housing is still the wrong camera.

The shapes

• Bullet — the visible deterrent. Obvious, directional, easy to aim along a driveway or fence line.
• Turret — the ball-in-socket. Lower profile than a bullet, easy 3-axis aiming, tamper-resistant. The default for under-eave mounting.
• Dome — ceiling-native and vandal-aware. Built for soffits, porches, and commercial entries.
• Flex — small, cheap, goes anywhere. The camera you add because one more angle turned out to matter.
• Pro — the long-range specialist with optical zoom, for reading what happened at distance.

The generations

The G5 line records in 2K (4MP) and remains the value play: the G5 Bullet and G5 Flex are $159 each, the G5 Turret Ultra and G5 Dome Ultra hit the same price in smaller housings, and the G5 Dome ($225) adds stronger dynamic range for mixed light.

The G6 line moves to 4K on a larger 1/1.8" sensor with an on-camera AI engine for smarter detections — and lands at $249 for both the G6 Bullet and G6 Turret. That's a $90 step over the G5 equivalents for double the detail. Where you might need to read a plate, a face, or a porch event at dusk, it's the easiest $90 you'll spend.

At the top, the G5 Pro ($475) keeps its seat: 4K with 3x optical zoom and long-range IR, for gates, lots, and anywhere "far away" is the whole point.

Doorbells

The G4 Doorbell Pro ($375) brings package detection and a display to the front door; the PoE Kit version ($475) includes a PoE chime for clean, no-WiFi installation — get the kit if you have any way to reach the door with cable.
