How to choose a UniFi access point

Count rooms, not megabits

One AP covers roughly 1,500 sq ft of open plan with drywall. Concrete block — most of Florida — cuts that hard on 5 and 6 GHz, so block homes plan one AP per floor. More smaller APs beat one big one every time; that's what the bundle pricing is for.

Wi-Fi 7 or Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 7 adds the 6 GHz band at 320 MHz width — the clearest spectrum in any home today. If your devices are recent and your plan is 500 Mbps or better, buy Wi-Fi 7. If you're covering a guest room on a 300 Mbps plan, the U6 Plus at $129 is the honest answer.

When the 10 GbE uplink matters

A single Wi-Fi 7 client on 6 GHz can outrun a gigabit port. The XG and XGS models exist for multi-gig fiber plans and dense deployments — on cable internet, the standard U7 Pro leaves nothing on the table.
